Of course I am grateful for survival, but no one in their right mind would be grateful for the experience. So much so that I read every word. His prose is occasionally a bit on the sticky side, but his accounts are infinitely fascinating. It's a definite gem and I'm very glad to have it on my bookshelf next to he original novels. Where you can buy the other books easily. And what a delight that is. Every page bursts with color photographs. You may find it for free on the web. Loved this book for it's honesty and beautiful word portraits of the city of Chicago and it's people.
