I highly recommend this book as we see through the pages the passing of time and how we are all connected by one thing or another. It is an epic tale of patriotic and familial duty, heroism, love, infidelity, and the tragedy of suicide. An excellent read as the last chapter will not let you put the book down. The fact that the authors didn't think that it was necessary to check this easily verified bit of history should alert the reader not to place too much faith in claims the authors make which are not so easily verified. Considering the publication date of 1997, I would have expected inclusion of a few more modern pieces. Muir gave very good descriptions of the places he passed through on his "walk". I recommend this book, but I recommend starting from the beginning of the series and reading them back to back with no breaks in between. The first one being the way Dominic treated Kennedi. Howard Dale, lead scientist of the expedition, is sympathetic, but has to fall in line with corporate and the community. A civilized society simply cannot condone exploitation and greed. Savannah is disbelieving and reluctant at first to accept that these people are so caring and supportive.
